My Learning Is Lit

This year I learned the following terms and I applied them as I read some pretty great stuff: Allusion-A reference that an author makes towards something. Plot-The way a story is told. Theme-A background of a topic or story. Diction-The way of words being expressed . Syntax-How words are organized in a sentence. In/direct characterization: Indirect characterization is when an author says something straight out specifically towards a character in the story or to something. Direct Characterization is when the author doesn’t say anything straight out and keeps it mysterious. Static/dynamic characters- The way of how characters are throughout a story. A static character is a character who doesn’t change through out a story . For example, Tom from “ The Great Gatsby “ is a character who is wealthy ignorant man himself so he stays the same throughout the story because of his personality and state of mind . A dynamic character is a character who doesn’t stay the same throughout the story . For example:Montag from “Fahrenheit 451 “ who’s character changes throughout the story and at the end he’s a completely different character . Symbolism-A representative of an abject or topic . Synecdoche-A persuasive way of speaking(speech).
